DSP Spotlight – Melecia Stapleton

We’re celebrating DSP Week by spotlighting some of our compassionate and hard-working Direct Support Professionals and Career Specialists. They’re the heart of our industry. Because of their dedication, we’re able to help hundreds of individuals with disabilities live fulfilling lives in central Missouri.

Melecia StapletonToday we talked with Melecia Stapleton, DSP for In-Home Services.

How long have you worked for ACT?

I started with ACT in 2003 and left for approximately 8 months in 2014-2015 and returned in July 2015 joining the In-Home Services Department!

What’s your favorite memory while working at ACT?

Anytime I see an individual I’ve supported, out and about in the community, just living their best life. For example, one time when I saw Robbie at a bus stop with his staff, I pulled up in my school bus and he says, “hey trouble, where’s pickle?” Just being remembered with a smile- it’s the best feeling ever!

What brought you to this line of work?

My sister Melanie, who at the time was a Program Manager and Live-In for Community Living, told me I would be good at it because I was caring and the rest is history.

Why do you like working with ACT?

I don’t consider it work. It’s my adventure times! And #Bonus I get to hang out with extraordinary people.

If you had a superhero name what would it be?

Bluediamond

If you could have any superpower, what would it be, and why?

My superpower would be unconditional love because it’s what this world needs most!

Thank you, Melecia. You’ve been a rockstar at ACT since day one and you draw people in with your personality! We’re glad to have you on our team.
