With the help and support of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Datastorm and GreenDisk, ACT has been able to provide companies with recycled 3.5-inch floppy disks.
Since 1995, ACT has had no trouble securing obsolete disks. Floppy disks come in from software manufacturers with overproduced software titles. ACT ships all of its disks in a GreenDisk label to larger companies such as Office Depot and processes anywhere between 15,000 to 18,000 disks a day. The process consists of removing the contents of the disk and the repackaging them for bulk sale to distributors.
Not only does donating old floppy disks help secure jobs for ACT employees, it also helps ACT sell these recycled disks at lower prices, ultimately helping distributors keep their costs down as well.
