beyond the walls of ACT’s Columbia location. It occurs in businesses throughout
mid-Missouri. ACT’s Community Employment Program links individuals with a wide
variety of employers.
The personalized services consumers receive as members of the Community Employment Program pays rich rewards for employer and employee alike. Each day ACT consumers leave home for their jobs at hospitals, student cafeterias, hotels and a wide range of business, industry and government facilities. Dedicated to do their best, they return with friendships, financial rewards and satisfaction.
Study Findings
A 2006 Gallup Poll found that:
§ 87% of the respondents would prefer to give their business to companies that hire individuals with disabilities.
§ 92% of the American public views companies who hire individuals with disabilities more favorably than those who do not.
A 2005 study found that 97% of people who have experience hiring people with disabilities would hire individuals with disabilities again.
A 2005 study found that the most frequently identified advantages of hiring individuals with disabilities were long-term employment, workforce diversity, consistent attendance, and co-worker partnerships.
A recent DePaul study indicates that employees with disabilities have fewer absences than those without disabilities.
People with disabilities are the largest minority market segment and account for approximately $1 trillion in discretionary spending.
Recent research shows the 46% of employers interviewed stated that accommodations for workers with disabilities cost nothing. $500 was the median one-time expenditure for employers (DOL, 2009)
